How Much Is My Gold Worth Today? A Scottsdale Seller's Guide
Julio Avila◆Aug 14, 2025◆5 min read
Gold is a financial tool, not just a metal. Whether you're ready to sell — or you'd rather keep your pieces and take a short-term loan against them — this guide shows how we evaluate gold calmly, clearly, and in private, so the number always makes sense.
What actually drives your offer
- Karat (purity). 10k, 14k, 18k, 22k — higher karat means more pure gold per gram. We test and verify before any number is quoted.
- Weight. We measure precisely, in grams or pennyweight, on a calibrated, legal-for-trade scale, in front of you.
- The live market. Gold trades on a real-time market ("spot"). Your quote reflects that market at the moment of your evaluation.
- Form & condition. Bullion and coins often sit closer to market value. Broken or worn jewelry is typically valued by its metal content — unless it's a recognized designer piece.
The designer exception: certain brands — Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany — can carry a premium beyond metal weight. When that applies to your piece, we show you why.
How we calculate it (we show the math)
- Verify karat with professional testing.
- Weigh the piece (or pieces) precisely.
- Reference the live market at that moment.
- Apply a fair, competitive offer — and walk you through each number.
Prefer not to sell?
You can take a short-term collateral loan using your gold as security. You keep ownership, and we offer competitive interest with flexible payment options, including secure digital payments. We'll explain the terms plainly — no long, convoluted contracts.
How to prepare (save time, maximize clarity)
- Bring anything you'd like evaluated — chains, broken links, mismatched earrings, that drawer of odds and ends. If it's gold, we can help.
- Gather paperwork and boxes for bullion or coins if you have them. The more information we have, the better we can help.
- Short on time? Send a couple of photos first — in many cases we can give an estimate before you come in.
What about gold-plated or unmarked pieces?
If an item is plated or unmarked, we'll test it. If it isn't solid gold, we'll tell you right away — and show you exactly how we tested it.
Sell or loan — you choose
- Sell for an immediate, fair payout.
- Loan for short-term liquidity with competitive interest, flexible payments, and a clear timeline. Many clients prefer this when they want to keep heirlooms.
FAQs
Do you give quotes by phone?
Yes. If you can share details about your item, we can give an estimated value and confirm it in person after evaluating.
What if my piece has gemstones?
Unless it's a recognized designer piece or a significant natural stone with paperwork and demand, most of the value comes from the gold weight.
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are preferred for privacy and speed — and walk-ins are always welcome.
